My first job was at The Providence Journal in 1973. I was an “Irregular extra” but had to quit after my boss grabbed me and tried to kiss me while we were both in the darkroom. He said he was in love with me. Even though I was just 23, I decided that I couldn't work with him anymore, so I took a job at the Journal Inquirer, a small paper in Connecticut, also in 1973. By the time I left that paper to move to a staff job at The Philadelphia Inquirer, I was the photo editor and had 3 male photographers working for me.
